Asthma Support
Now that you know a bit more about asthma, how can you support it naturally?
Asthma can be associated with an increase in mucous production known as hypersecretion. Yuck, I know but the body is trying to protect you. The function of mucous is to trap invading pathogens (such as viruses, bacteria, pollen etc) so they can be expelled from the body.
Mucous hypersecretion results in increased narrowing of the airways making it harder to breath. Unfortunately hypersecretion can be triggered by non-harmful substances such as dust and food, which is linked to allergy induced asthma.
So, our focus is to reduce inflammation and mucous hypersecretion. Here are a few things you can try:
Reduce fatty food consumption which can increase mucous production and support inflammation.
Increase fresh fruit and vegetable intake, rich in antioxidants, fiber, vitamins and minerals which are anti-inflammatory reducing symptom severity. Think green leafy vegetables, apples, oranges, berries etc.
Practice mindfulness exercise such as meditation, reading, walking etc. which aids in stress reduction which is a common trigger for asthma.
Keep your environment free from any known triggers. e.g regular cleaning, ventilation, using natural cleaning products etc.
Limit alcohol intake. Alcohol can promote inflammation potentially making inflammatory respiratory conditions such as asthma worse.
